Data on distribution of dormice were collected during 1990-1999 period. The places were mapped using 10 km UTM grid. The most common and widely spread is fat dormice (Glis glis). It occurs in all deciduous forest areas of the country. The Forest dormouse (Dryomys nitedula) is also widely spread in the country, but much restricted and mosaic in comparison with the Fat Dormice. It occupies deciduous forests as well as mixed forests and reach higher altitudes. The Common Dormice (Muscardinus avellanarius) show the most restricted distribution in Bulgaria. It was found mainly in western part of the country: Sofia region, Vitosha, Rila and Pirim mountains. We have also a few finds in Stara planina mountain, but not in it's western part. We have only two reports that the Garden Dormice (Eliomys quercimus) occur in Bulgaria. It was found in 1950 near Kula town in western Bulgaria and in 1993 near Petrich - South Bulgaria. The last report seems not very reliable. The Mouse-tailed Dormice (Myomimus personatus) was found only once in the country. According to the existing data we can conclude that the knowledge on the distribution of the dormice in Bulgaria is not fully complete. It needs much precise and specific investigations.
