17 taxa of fleas (Siphonaptera) were collected from Myoxus glis, Eliomys quercinus and Dryomys nitedula in the Western and Central Balkans using different collecting methods. The following flea species were collected on Myoxus glis: Pulex irritans, Hystrichopsylla orientalis orientalis, Ctenophthalmus monticola, Ctenophthalmus agyrtes wagnerianus, Ctenophthalmus nifetodes brelihi, Ctenophthalmus nifetodes tvrtkovici, Ctenophthalmus nifetodes nifetodes, Ctenophthalmus congener congener, Leptopsylla segnis, Leptopsylla sciurobia, Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum, Ceratophyllus hirundinis and Ceratophyllus rusticus. On Dryomys nitedula we collected: Ctenophthalmus agyrtes graecus, Ctenophthalmus congener troilus, Leptopsylla segnis, Leptopsylla sciurobia and Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum, and on Eliomys quercinus: Echidnophaga murina, Myoxopsylla laverani laverani and Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum. There are no records of fleas from Muscardinus avellanarius. Dormice are the major hosts for Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum, Myoxopsylla laverani laverani and Ctenophthalmus nifetodes brelihi. Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum and Myoxopsylla laverani laverani ecologically belong to the group of squirrel and dormice fleas. Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum is generally widespread in this area and was collected from the following hosts: Myoxus glis, Eliomys quercinus, Dryomys nitedula, Sciurus vulgaris, Martes foina, Martes martes, Clethrionomys glareolus, Microtus arvalis, Dolomys bogdanovi, Apodemus flavicollis, Apodemus sylvaticus, Micromys minutus, Vulpes vulpes, Felis silvestris, Parus major and Homo sapiens. Ctenophthalmus nifetodes brelihi was found only in one locality in Slovenia on Myoxus glis. The distribution range of Myoxopsylla laverani laverani highly overlap with that of Eliomys quercinus. The species was found also on Apodemus sylvaticus.
